‘Asian Tropical Bass’ on Animist Records – is an EP bringing sound pioneers Apichat Pakwan and Thai band Lamaihansa to the rest of the world

Asian Tropical Bass aims to be a genre defining 11th release on Dutch label, Animist Records, showcasing future sounds with roots in traditional Asian music.

Thai-Dutch collective Apichat Pakwan bring their unique mix of Thai styled molam and electronic music – defined on their debut album Esantronics from 2019 – with psychedelic groover Lao Cow.

Also featured, are Thai band Lamaihansa. Their signature song Don’t Wash has 5-million plus views – blending luk thung (a Thai-Lao folk music genre), reggae, ska and hip hop.

The B-side on the forthcoming record features a darker sound with producer-duo Hiss Sound (who released their debut album Taraf on Animist Records in 2022). They take on Apichat Pakwan’s E-San Machines from their first EP Angkanang.

Closing the EP is Kareem Raïhani’s remix of Apichat Pakwan’s Lao Cow.
