Bassekou Kouyaté and Ngoni Ba drop new LP on Glitter Beat

The ngoni is the lute-like instrument that is essential to Mali’s Griot culture and Bassekou Kouyaté is taking its sound into new realms. His band Ngoni Ba are also in full throttle. Ba Power is the fourth album by ngoni player Bassekou, but his first for Glitter Beat. This LP follows last month’s incredible Hanoi Masters release by this ever-expanding label.

Hanoi Masters: War is a Wound, Peace is a Scar came out at the end of last month and is also an incredible release. It was recorded last summer by Grammy-award winning producer Ian Brennan, best known for his work with Tinariwen, capturing Vietnamese musicians’ reflections on the “American War” who  create beautiful and saddening pieces of musical remembrance.
