Sven Wunder’s 2019 album Eastern Flowers showed the musician’s mastery of Anatolian rock, European jazz, library, funk and psychedelia, while 2020’s Wabi Sabi mixed jazz with Eastern and Southern Asian sounds – now this 7″ gives fans a first sample of new album, Natura Morta. Piano Piano Records in collaboration with Mr Bongo will drop the taster single, Impasto/Prussian Blue, in May. It will be an eagerly anticipated showcase of the colorful palette of the upcoming album.
Sven Wunder is highly collectable, both previous albums sold over 11,000 vinyl copies combined and remain greatly sought after on Discogs, keep ’em peeled for the next drop. The artist has been a massive word-of-mouth craze amongst psych, jazz and hip hop heads, enjoyed by Danger Mouse, Mike D, Gilles Peterson, J Rocc and more. Listeners can get a digital taste ahead of time with Morricone-esque A-side Impasto – meaning “still life” in Italian.
“Natura Morta will explore art as a bridge between nature and the human ability to judge and observe in eleven musical compositions, with brightly colored textures and an emphasis on vibrant melodies,” the labels have said.
Expect more luch orchestration, genre-melding moments of genius, beat-science brilliance and a diggers’ dream.
