Miles Francis has announced a new album and released the title track and video – Good Man. The artist has worked with Angélique Kidjo, Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings and Arcade Fire’s Will Butler. Their creative projects have helped them come out as non-binary.
Inspired by Prince, David Bowie and early 2000’s boy bands, Miles shared previous singles off the album Popular (feat. Lizzie Loveless & Lou Tides – formerly of TEEN – on background vocals) and Service.
The album’s surreal cover art features their mother and father and plays into “the idea of one person embodying all different types of people, and the idea that we dont exist in a vacuum: were created by our families and our trauma and the whole world around us”.
Miles has already played Fallon & Letterman, earning praise from the likes of FADER, Stereogum, KCRW and beyond. The NYC singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist shows off a true artistry, combining their influences with their own joyful sound.
Miles explains: “Good Man is sung by a man who preaches progressive values, who identifies as one of the good ones – yet he fails to recognize his perpetuation of patriarchal behavior in his own life. There are lots of outwardly ‘bad’ men out there – but it’s the ones who claim their goodness that can be particularly troublesome and capable of causing real harm.”
They recently played a hometown show at Brooklyn Bowl with Antibalas.
Miles helped found Musicians United. They urge support of these groups. The album is out in March 2022.
