One of the electronic highlights of 2023 was Hieroglyphic Being’s The Moon Dance album on Apnea Records.

It was just one release that helped crown the Chicago acid-techno/true-house/space-jazz/sonic luminary as once again one of the most exciting talents in the world, alongside a seemingly unrelenting output of new productions, live performances, DJ mixes and re-edits.

A mix for Obey Records, also released towards the end of 2023, again showed his unique approach and selection prowess. His depth and taste was on full show.

For HB aficionados (who are of course always aware of the numerous aliases and sound guises of this wizard), it was also a great pleasure to see 4 UR SONIC CONSIDERATION made available for any one unable to attend the “live experimental electronic wind instrument noise ambient performance” from October, at Pioneer Works, Red Hook, Brooklyn, New York.

Finally, there were also the M3MB3RS0NLY edits – a constant source of reimagined leftfield dance classics and treated tracks that result in new extremities of the Chicago spectrum – and these continue to come thick and fast.

The loopy rework of Angela’s I Gotta Little Love took the disco-not-disco anthem into the stratosphere on WHERE MY HOT SHT AT.
