Compost’s ESSENTIAL dance 12″ with remixes by space-disco-don Prins Thomas, Chicago’s Rahaan, plus UK producer Medlar & Nigeria’s Dele Sosimi

Arnau Obiols and KAYYAK join forces with a host of renowned remix talent for the Compost label and their latest premier dancefloor killer. Arnau and KAYYAK are known for blending cultural influences and present two new tracks seamlessly fusing afro-inspired rhythms and grooves.

Faith and San Diago – following their debut Chang’an EP and the single Tunacheza, which was also featured in the compilation Future Sounds of Jazz Vol. 15 – are two tracks on this, their third release for the esteemed German label.

The original tracks have a more organic vibe than the remixes, which offer more club-ready versions, featuring versions by the Norwegian space-disco auteur Prins Thomas, the Chicago DJ legend Rahaan, plus a collaborative rework by the British house producer Medlar and Nigerian musician Dele Sosimi – famed for his work as a keyboard player for Fela Kuti, in the late ’70s and early ’80s, now as a musician in his own right after composing his superb contemporary albums.

The label explains: “Recorded between Zurich and Barcelona, the tracks embody a fusion of disco, funk, and jazz infused with a strong West African influence drawn from genres such as highlife, afrobeat, and juju. Their passion for psychedelia and krautrock is evident in the recordings, characterised by raw tape echoes, primitive drum machines, heavily processed analog synthesisers and dream-like atmospheres.”
