A favourite label at WTM is the wonderful MIC label and they’re back with a new remix package of Greek duo, Kolida Babo – with the trusty Coby Sey (above) and Who’s The Technician? on remix duties and entrusted with taking Exodus to new sonic heights.
Last year, Kolida Baba’s electronic experiments found fans with everyone from BBC 6Music jocks, to dub specialist The Bug, such was the broad appeal and depth to the self-titled Kolida Baba album. It was a collection of boundless leftfield jazz rooted in folk and Greek tradition, electronically focused and highly memorable. Both new remixes are absolute gold, experimenting with soundsystem aesthetics, digi-dancehall, bass music, UKG and glitchy house. Coby Sey is a Lewisham, South London, musician who’s founded the Curl collective alongside Mica Levi and Brother May and collaborated with Babyfather, Klein and Tirzah (noted as one of the 50 Best New Artists of 2019 by The Guardian). Who’s The Technician? is of Ireland’s Wah Wah Wino label.
Here’s a link to the music and the MIC label, run by Nicole McKenzie (aka Cherrie Flava) – a DJ, NTS show presenter, label boss and former record shop manager with a lot of experience and wisdom in the industry:
