Nils Petter Molvær produces album with Mino Cinelu for first collaboration – Mino’s worked with Miles Davis and Gong – before beautiful ‘SulaMadiana’ LP, out September 4th

A beautiful album by Mino Cinelu and Nils Petter Molvær is out soon – SulaMadiana will be released via BMG’s Modern Recordings imprint and is the first collaborative project between Norwegian trumpeter Nils and French percussionist Mino.

The pair met in 2015 at a solo gig Molvær was playing in Turkey. Cinelu played with Miles Davis for several years, who said: “With Mino, any music swings”. He’s also played on recordings by Weather Report, the Pat Metheny Group, Gong, Kate Bush, Herbie Hancock, Tori Amos, Laurie Anderson and Curtis Mayfield, to name just a few. Nils Petter has issued more than a dozen experimental albums since making his debut on ECM in 1997, with Khmer, which took cues from both hip hop and electronic soundscapes. He is also known for his distinctive trumpet playing and his collaborations are as diverse as minimal techno pioneer Moritz von Oswald and reggae’s Sly & Robbie.

The album title is a reference to the Norweigan island that Molvær grew up on, as well as a synonym for Martinique, from where Mino’s father hails.
